McDonald’s where Luigi Mangione was caught receives enormous backlash following call-in from employee

/The McDonald’s restaurant where shooting suspect Luigi Mangione was arrested is being flooded with bad reviews in an apparent show of support for the arrested man.

UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, 50, was shot dead last week outside the Hilton Hotel in Midtown Manhattan, New York, in an alleged targeted attack.

A nationwide manhunt was launched for Mangione after his photographs were released and a $60,000 reward was offered by the FBI and NYPD.

The 26-year-old was then taken into custody after being spotted in a McDonald’s restaurant in Altoona, Pennsylvania on Monday (December 9), after an employee reportedly recognized him and called the police.

Now, the fast-food restaurant is facing some bizarre backlash as several one-star reviews have been posted to the McDonald’s restaurant’s Yelp and Google reviews within the past 24 hours.

One review posted 19 hours ago at the time of writing read: “The staff accused me of assassinating a CEO. Incredibly unprofessional and class-traitor staff.”

Negative comments of a similar nature have since been rolling in, as another accused the McDonald’s joint of being a ‘fed hotspot’ and alluded to officers trawling the area and ‘looking for an excuse to arrest citizens’.

In a dark take, others appear to be rallying around Mangione by posting unrealistic stories and jokes – and accusing the restaurant of employing ‘snitches’ while encouraging others to ‘boycott’ the place.

One review read: ‘Fire all the rats working here’ while another echoed ‘service was terrible’ with ‘rats everywhere’.

A third also said: “Dog food, rats everywhere.’

Meanwhile, Yelp has stalled reviews for the Altoona fast-food restaurant on its site, citing ‘unusual activity’ after ‘increased public attention’.

The alert adds: “While we don’t take a stand one way or the other when it comes to this incident, we’ve temporarily disabled the posting of content to this page as we work to investigate whether the content you see here reflects actual consumer experiences rather than the recent events.”

However, before the notice was posted, dozens of reviews were posted referring to ‘snitches’.

One Yelp reviewer wrote: “The fries were sad and cold, like that snitches heart. Pretty depressing atmosphere too. Feels likes someone might rat out on you.”

The commentary comes as many are expressing support for the suspected killer online, with some responses growing around the perceptions that medical insurance companies put profits over people.

Thompson was shot dead outside the New York hotel where UnitedHealthcare was holding an investors’ meeting.

Mangione was arraigned on Monday night, five days after he allegedly gunned down the CEO, and has since been charged with Thompson’s murder.

The McDonald’s worker reportedly called the police after noticing Mangione ‘acting suspiciously’ in the restaurant at around 9.15am.

UNILAD has contacted McDonald’s for comment.

The suspect believed to have gunned down UnitedHealthcare’s CEO Brian Thompson on the streets of New York has been arrested.

Luigi Nicholas Mangione, 26, has been charged with the murder of the father-of-two as officials caught up with him while reading in a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania, following a tip-off from one of the fast-food chain’s employees.

According to an online document, Mangione, whose last known residency is Honolulu, Hawaii, has been charged with the murder of the 50-year-old, as well as possessing an unlicensed firearm, forgery, and providing false ID to cops.

Mangione, who graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 2020 with undergraduate and graduate degrees in computer science, was found with a gun, mask, and writings that linked him to the ambush.

He is currently being held in a jail in Pennsylvania awaiting to be extradited to New York to face charges in connection with Mr Thompson’s death.

Mangione was ordered to be held without bail during a brief court hearing.

The UnitedHealthcare CEO was fatally shot three times from behind outside of the Hilton Hotel on Wednesday (December 4) at 6.46am in Manhattan, New York City.

Thompson was walking to an insurance conference hosted by his company when he was targeted by the suspect, who was ‘lying in wait’ for around five minutes, the New York Police Department confirmed.

While on the run, Mangione left breadcrumbs for the FBI of his movements prior to the attack, as well as after it – including dumping a bag in Central Park with Monopoly money and a jacket inside it.

Asked if he needed a public defender, he reportedly asked if he could ‘answer that at a future date’.

The chance sighting at the restaurant led to a dramatic break in the fast-moving investigation that has captivated the public in the five days since the shooting that shook the health insurance industry.

Mangione had a gun believed to be the one used in last Wednesday’s shooting of Brian Thompson, as well as writings suggesting anger with corporate America, police said.

He was sitting at a table in the rear of the McDonald’s wearing a blue medical mask and looking at a laptop computer, documents said.

When an officer asked if he had been to New York recently, he ‘became quiet and started to shake’.

In his backpack, police found a black 3D-printed pistol and a 3D-printed black silencer, according to the documents.

The pistol had a metal slide and plastic handle with a metal threaded barrel. He was taken into custody about 9.15am, Pennsylvania police said.

“He is believed to be our person of interest in the brazen, targeted murder of Brian Thompson,” New York Police commissioner Jessica Tisch said.

Mangione had clothing and a mask similar to those worn by the gunman and a fraudulent New Jersey ID matching one the suspect used to check into a New York City hostel before the shooting, Ms Tisch said.

NYPD chief of detectives Joseph Kenny said Mangione was born and raised in Maryland, and has ties to San Francisco.

Police found a three-page document with writings suggesting Mangione had ‘ill will toward corporate America‘, Mr Kenny said.

The handwritten document ‘speaks to both his motivation and mindset’, Ms Tisch said.

Mangione had a ghost gun, a type of weapon that can be assembled at home from parts without a serial number, making them difficult to trace, investigators said.

“As of right now the information we’re getting from Altoona is that the gun appears to be a ghost gun that may have been made on a 3D printer, capable of firing a 9mm round,” Mr Kenny said.

NYPD detectives and staff from the Manhattan district attorney’s office travelled to Altoona to interview Mangione, he said.

Mr Thompson, 50, was killed last Wednesday as he walked alone to a hotel, where UnitedHealthcare’s parent company, UnitedHealth Group, was holding its annual investor conference.

Woman gets fired after telling McDonald’s employee to 'get a career'

Woman gets fired after telling McDonald’s employee to ‘get a career’

The woman and her partner kicked off at a Canadian McDonald’s

A couple have gone viral for all the wrong reasons, leading to one of them reportedly losing their job.

I think we can all agree that fast food isn’t always as fast as we’d like it to be, but pulling up and waiting a few extra minutes isn’t the end of the world.

However, this couple seemed to believe it was and demanded a refund after ordering at a McDonald’s drive-thru in Alberta, Canada.

The man driving the car started filming the McDonald’s employee after an argument began, with the employee filming him in return.

“If you’re refunding my money, you have to give me cash,” the guy fumed.

The McDonald’s employee then asked if they paid debit, and he insisted that it ‘doesn’t matter’.

“If you’re not giving me my food I want my money back in cash,” he continued to argue.

But the fast food employee is then heard explaining that she’d requested some fresh food for their order and simply asked them to park up and wait a few minutes – not that their food wasn’t coming at all.

The woman in the passenger seat then started to weigh into the conversation and asked the female employee where she was from.

These customers at a McDonald’s in Edmonton reportedly declined to park their car to receive their food and instead insisted on a cash refund. A dispute arose, leading to a confrontation during which the woman called the worker a loser, asked her where she’s from, and told her…

She said: “You’re in Edmonton, where are you from? […] Here we speak English.”

The woman proceeded to tell the McDonald’s worker to ‘get a career’ and ‘do something for your life’.

As the argument continued, the man went on to allege that the video he was filming would spark ‘a big lawsuit tomorrow’ as he threatened to phone his lawyer and sue both the employee and McDonald’s.

The female passenger then appeared to tell the employee to go back to where she came from.

While the man in the video boasted that he has 50,000 Instagram followers, the video has since seriously backfired on the pair and the woman has allegedly lost her job.

The viral clip was shared on the YEGWAVE X page, and the owner and manager of the place where the woman works at has since messaged the page to confirm that she’s been fired.

These customers at a McDonald’s in Edmonton reportedly declined to park their car to receive their food and instead insisted on a cash refund. A dispute arose, leading to a confrontation during which the woman called the worker a loser, asked her where she’s from, and told her…

“My name is Marco and I am the owner and acting general manager,” the message began.

“We do not condone that type of language and she is no longer employed at this company.

“This video does not reflect the values or viewpoints of the employees who work here or the family that owns this business. All four of our grandparents were immigrants to Canada as well as many of our employees.”

He added that he was ‘disgusted’ by his ex employee’s behavior.

Marco proceeded to ask the page to pin his response and repost it on his behalf.

Former McDonald’s employee shares ‘best’ secret ‘combo’ that isn’t on the menu

“This IS the BEST maccas combo.”

People are flooding to social media in heated debate over a secret fries hack shared by a former McDonald’s employee.

If you’ve ever visited McDonald’s, you probably don’t put too much thought into ordering a carton of fries. At most, you question which size and debate which sauce you may accompany the side with, not thinking there can be any more to it.

However, one TikToker who claims they used to work at the fast food chain, has since revealed there’s a little known request you can add to your fries order which makes all the difference to your experience of the meal.

Ruby Guest – who goes by @rubyguestt on the platform – took to TikTok last week to reveal the ‘BEST maccas combo’.

In the video, she says: “Stop scrolling and here me out. I am a former Maccas employee and if you have not done this with your fries, you need to.”

But what is the miracle tip which is meant to send your fries experience to a completely different level?

The former 'Maccas' employee has revealed the 'best' combo.

TikTok/@rubyguestt

Well, Ruby – who lives in Victoria, Australia – recommended asking for ‘Angus seasoning on your fries’.

“It is literally the best thing. Like so much better than normal salt,” she continued. “It tastes so good, like Maccas fries are already amazing, but with Angus seasoning, urgh, so good.”

However, her tip has received some extremely differing responses.

Some people have flooded to the post in praise of the hack, noting they already do it themselves.

One TikToker wrote: “As a Maccas manager I can confirm it’s so so good.”

“I thought we were original,” a second joked.

A third added: “When I first met my husband he worked at Maccas and we always had Angus seasoning on our fries!!! literally so bomb, everyone needs to try it.”

And another suggested: “Angus seasoning on nuggets with big mac sauce.”

Although, others haven’t been quite so enthusiastic about the tip.

There's a special seasoning you can ask for.

TikTok/@rubyguestt

One user said: “Maccas fries are NOT amazing. I can’t remember the last time I got hot, fresh, salty fries. Always cold, soggy and tasteless.”

Although, Ruby notes she ‘always’ makes sure to ask for her fries ‘fresh’.

Another commented: “I asked at my local Maccas today and they said no.”

Ruby replied: “Noooo that’s so sad. Defs try a diff Maccas ahah.”

And a third said: “I CAME BACK FOR THIS VIDEO BC U STITCHED ME UP. The Maccas workers have no idea wtf angus seasoning is I’ve never been so embarrassed.”

The TikToker responded: “Oh that’s strange, they might not of understood cause they might not know anything about kitchen.”

Disturbing reason iconic McDonald’s clown Ronald McDonald has quietly disappeared from everything

Ronald McDonald has not been seen since 2016

Those of a certain age will be well aware of a certain Ronald McDonald clown from their youth.

Whether it be a Maccies trip before a cinema date or a Happy Meal paid for by mom and dad, you may have noticed the mascot in McDonald’s restaurants across the US.

With a yellow boiler suit outfit, white face and red wig, Ronald has been in a mainstay in pop culture since he was introduced way back in the 1960s.

To be honest, just describing the way the mascot looks you’d think Ronald is prime for a horror film appearance.

So, to think his job was to bring kids joy while they delved into a Happy Meal is a little concerning.

Ronnie very much divided opinion back in the day, as you either loved him or hated him.

But thinking about it, you may have noticed Ronald hasn’t been seen on any McDonald’s marketing for a long while.

Well, this is beause the fast-food chain decided to phase out the character altogether in 2016 due to a disturbing social media trend.

Cast your mind back eight years and you may remember the viral trend that saw people dressing up as sinister-looking clowns.

Folks would often share snaps of them in clown costumes on social media, with the trend taking a rather disturbing turn.

It got to the point where people would rock up to schools across the US dressed as clowns.

And things got massively out of hand as a Florida family were attacked by a group of 20 people wearing clown masks.

Because of the social media trend, clowns went from a childhood entertainment to the stuff of nightmares.

McDonald’s ultimately decided to ditch Ronald in the end due to the public opinion of clowns shifting.

A statement from Maccies at the time read: “McDonald’s and franchises in the local markets are mindful of the current climate around clown sightings in communities and as such are being thoughtful in respect to Ronald McDonald’s participation in community events for the time being.”

Willard Scott, the original portrayer of the McDonald’s mascot, sadly passed away at the age of 87 in 2021.

Back in 1987, Scott offered some insight into playing the famed character.

He told the New York Times: “I just love people. A lot of speakers on the talk circuit leave right afterward… I do a lot of shmoozing. I’m like a dog. You just open the door and I go, ‘rrrr, rrrr,’ and then I lick everybody’s face.”
